How import costs work in Germany
The EU is phasing out its €150 duty de-minimis from July 2026, so more low-value e-commerce parcels now attract duty; import VAT already applies from the first euro. Goods with EU preferential origin can qualify for reduced or zero duty with the right documentation.
Example: €10,000 of goods with 4% duty = €400 duty. Import VAT at 19% on (€10,000 + €400) ≈ €1,976, plus ~€100 clearance — about €12,476 landed before freight, roughly 24.8% on top of goods value.
Your duty rate hinges on your product's tariff code. Look it up with our Harmonized Tariff Schedule search — the international 6-digit HS root sits at the start of every country's tariff number — then paste the rate into the calculator above.

A supplier's quote rarely tells the full story. Ocean or air freight, marine insurance, import duty, VAT or GST, and customs brokerage can add 15–40% to your product cost. EximKit's Landed Cost Calculator models every layer — including your Incoterm and de-minimis rules — so you know the real per-unit number before you wire a deposit.
